A man that amongst his friends needs little introduction. Notorious for his fickle personality and easy energy. Not only his personality is inconstant, but it is also his musical taste, the genres he plays and his interests. Apart from music, Youp has a strong connection with sports and exercise. Pushing himself to new limits constantly and challenging his physical abilities. Just like Youp Hylkema loves to dance in between genres, he enjoys trying out new sports and taking on a challenge.
It all dates back to his early years when he was already musically oriented and had a good feel for rhythm. Playing the drums in high- school and testing his abilities on the djembe. He developed his feeling for music during those early years while honing his skills in various drum instruments. During those high-school years, he did not only emerge himself in playing instruments but he slowly began collecting music. Among his friends, he was one leading individual that constantly hunted for new music to share. This passion and love for music grew and he became interested in genres like Funk, 90’s HipHop, Disco and House music.
When in 2018 DJ Tourist travelled to an afterparty for one of the first times, he saw one of his dearest friends entertaining the crowd. He was in awe of this phenomenon and immediately decided he too aspired to learn this mystical skill: DJing. As years followed he engaged in a collective, LA OS that was built upon a love for house music. For 2 years Youp was part of this movement, creating and playing at events while further developing his DJ skills. He soon learned that it was only playing records that drew his attention and discontinued his involvement in organising get-togethers.
After pursuing his passion for music together with Nino under the alias “Youno” he discovered that music was not his only love. So to continue his passion for sharing music, the identity of DJ Tourist was born. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere during a weekend of music and beautiful moments, it all came together. His image, dressed like a tourist, making videos and the whole energy just radiated that of a travelling artist. DJ Tourist was born.
